Backgammon Books
|
A GREAT WAY to improve at backgammon when you're
not playing is to read backgammon books. Good books will
help you think about the game in different ways, give you tips on
strategy and tactics, and generally give you a broader perspective on
the game.
Here all the major backgammon books published in the last 150 years. Click on either of the following two links to view a list.
The lists are interesting in themselves in that you can browse through and see, for example, which are the most prolific backgammon authors, or what decades saw the most books written. From there you can access detailed information about any book you are interested in, and read comments from readers.

Popularity of the Game
Books provide an interesting way to see how the popularity of the game
has waxed and waned over the years. Mark Driver and Dean Kezan have created
a graph showing the number of books published in each decade.
[This graph originally appeared in the November 2000 issue of
GammOnLine.]

You can see that backgammon was quite popular in the mid 1800s. There was another
surge in popularity in the 1930s. And, of course, there was a huge surge in
popularity in the 1970s. Judging by the number of books currently being published,
the game of backgammon is still going strong!
