Many new players would move the 5 from the 6 point, hitting black on the 1 point and move a 2 from the 4 point to the 2 point. They forget that the roll can be played in two ways; either number may be played first. Thus, the correct tactic is to move the 2 from the 6 point to the 4 point and then to take off the 5. Playing a 2-5 when bearing off in this position saves white from leaving an unnecessary and dangerous blot.
