From Backgammon, the Cruelest Game, by Barclay Cooke and Jon Bradshaw

Black to play 1-1.

Black’s position is bad, but not hopeless. He is attempting to preserve his board and requires delay. Paradoxically, the way to accomplish this is to rush all four men on his bar into his inner board. This apparently eccentric play prevents black from being forced to move 6’s. If any of these four men remained on the bar, it would have to be played down to the 1 point if a 6 were rolled, and black does not want these men out of play. Thus, to cause delay, black rushes his men forward. A contradiction in terms, but correct and logical.
