White to play 5-3.

Make your three point. There is a strong alternate play that is becoming more and more popular in expert circles. It is simply to move two men from the black twelve point to your eight and ten points. It means taking chances early in the game but greatly increases your chance to make the bar, five, or four point at your next roll, and the modern theory is that the three point does not really become valuable until after you have managed to make the four or five point.
