| White to play 4-3. |
Move two men from black twelve point to your nine and ten points. You leave two blots, but your opponent can’t hit both of them. If neither is hit they are in excellent position to help you build your bar point, five point, or four point; or you may be able to cover one, giving you possession of your nine or ten point.
Alternative plays are to split your back men and just move one man from black twelve into yor outerboard. The better split is to move a back man three to the black four point, rather than to move four to the black five point as some strategists advise.
A very old-fashioned play is to move both back men up. Don’t make this play against an opponent who knows enough to hit one of those blots if he can do so. You may come out all right, but it is more likely that your game will go sour immediately.
