Should Black
double to 2?

You may wonder why we haven’t suggested that black should double at this stage of the game. Clearly he has an advantage! The trouble is that the game has a long way to go, and experience will teach you that doubling a potential back game too early is a losing proposition. And right now, if black did double we have a very sound basis for accepting.

There are two reasons why we would be able to take the double: first, black has a lot of work to do before he can get around to bearing off; second, we are likely to get several chances to hit blots before black is safe in his home board.
