| White to play 3-1. |
Sometimes you may use the double bump as a two-way measure. In Position 86 you roll 3-1. Your position is a poor one and calls for desperate measures. You already have the start of a back game, but you want to get farther back or to develop your forward game quickly. You use your 1 to hit the blot on your five point. You might use the 3 to move from the black two point to the five point, but instead you should use it to hit the blot on your three point with another man from your six point.
If black fails to hit either of your blots, you are in excellent shape to start making up a good board. If he hits them, you will then have extra men back and will be able to hold a back game against him.
