I use 2 numbers: 51 pips and 21 pips
In opening and middle game positions, 51 pips is my reference. It's the
sum of the 6, 8, 13 and 24 point. If all these points have 2 checkers, I
have 102 pips + the rest. Sometimes its handy to start with 3 x 51 = 153
pips and then shift some pips mentally. A five anchor starts at 51 - 4 =
47 and so on.
In positions with a total of five points made, I sum the points x 3 and
then shift.
In end positions I start with 21 pips and sum the rest,
