From Backgammon for Blood, by Bruce Becker

White to play 5-2.

Here, the initial possibilities are not as broad. The man from B12 to the W11 point is of value, but the man from B12 to W8 is at this moment merely a reinforcement for future building (unless you get a 1-1 or 3-3 throw next, in which case having this extra man on W8 really helps). The man on W11 can be hit in only two ways (6-4 and 4-6) — not much of a risk. And on your next throw this builder can be utilized in thirteen ways, while eleven other throws also make points. Not as strong a move as the others in this group, but still the best one for this throw.
