The correct play is to make Black’s 5 point. Now that you have this sound and solid position in Black’s board you can turn your attention elsewhere. If your blot on your 10 point is not hit (even if it were, it certainly wouldn’t hurt you much), you will have several combinations with which to make your bar or 5 points, thus making Black’s hopes of winning rather dim.
In no way would it have been correct to make any move that would have hit either of Black’s blots. A fourth man in your board would give Black the opportunity to make a second point, thus giving him the necessary ingredients to play a back game.
