From Better Backgammon, by Tim Holland

White to play 6-5.

The correct play is to move one man from Black’s 1 point to Black’s 12 point. Black is threatening to shut off your escape route. This may be the last time you will be able to get out of his trap; since the opportunity has presented itself, you must take advantage of it. Another reason for selecting this move in preference to that of making your 5 point is that if Black does not hit your blot on your 11 point (17 to 1 against your being hit) or make your 5 point (only double 4s), you will have several combinations available to you on your next roll that will make either your 5 point, 4 point, or bar point.
