The correct play is to move one man from White’s 8 point to White’s 1 point, hitting Black’s blot. You must try to prevent Black from establishing your 1 point. If you were to make your bar in lieu of hitting, Black would have 11 chances out of 36 to roll a 1, giving him a position from which he will still be able to win the game.
By hitting, Black must roll two 1s if he is to make your 1 point. If he hits your blot, you will have no difficulty in reentering, and you should plan to keep hitting Black’s blot on your 1 point until either you or he establish this point.
