From Better Backgammon, by Tim Holland
| White to play 2-1. |
The correct play is to make Black’s five point. Now that you have established a solid defensive position in Black’s home board you may set your sights elsewhere. There no longer is any fear of being pointed on or of being primed. As the game progresses, unless Black is able to escape with his two men which are on your 1 point, he will be forced to move his men past your men on his 5 point. This will ease your escape when it becomes expedient for you to do so.
Your play now is to make your bar point or 4 point (both if possible), and, in your attempt, it would not be injudicious if you were to leave several blots in your outer board.
