If, as a result of having seen Position 49, you made the correct move of bearing one man from the 5 point and moving one man to White’s 4 point, then, in fact, it wasn’t such a tough problem after all.
Hopefully, these two problems have helped train you to recognize these situations whenever they may occur. If you are alert, you will think before you move; the result will be that you won’t have to say to yourself, “I should have moved that last 3 and 1 differently.”
This brings to mind a favorite quote: “For of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: ‘It might have been!‘” That could have been said as a result of a careless backgammon move.
