Strategy--Checker play
I recall reading an article that proposed three criteria for taking a
"Pay Now" play as opposed to pay later. I'm trying to remember what
the criteria were.
I THINK they were:
1. The play, if you don't get hit, should pretty much gin the game.
2. Your opponent's position should be strengthening, so that if you
have to make the risky play later it will be more dangerous.
3. There should be life after death.
The article (by Woolsey?) suggested that all three criteria had to
apply.
Were these the right three criteria? Any comments?

1. Is my opponent's board improving?
2. Am I likely to leave more or worse shots by waiting?
3. If I pay now and get away with it, am I home free?
Yes answers point to paying now, No answers to paying later.
However, as with the three musketeers, there is a fourth, the most
important one:
4. When in doubt, pay later.
