Manually recording a match
|
I'd like to record some matches at our club and at tournaments. Problem
is I don't know how to notate quickly enough to keep up. Is there a
resource that would teach me?

I've done this a few times and this seems to be about the easiest:
You need to write down the dice roll. Most plays don't require this,
but if you roll something like 32 or 41 and move one checker 5 pips, you
need the dice roll to get it right.
Then you just write down the destination point of the checkers. So an
opening 31 would be written 31, 55. You can also use some aliases if
you want to like M for midpoint and B for bar. This technique keeps the
amount of stuff to write to a minimum, but still gives full information.
If you ask the players to go a little bit slower, especially during
'forced' parts of the game like bearoffs, then you'll usually be able to
keep up. Having a good vantage point so you don't have to strain to see
the dice is important.

Adding a couple:
* when making a point, you can write the point number just once,
underlined.
* hits can be marked by a gross dot/small "x" -- this isn't strictly
necessary, but having flagged the move where a checker was sent to
the bar could help correcting mistakes.
