Match Play
Playing through some expert matches online I came across these 2 errors
recently by 2 Giants of backgammon.
Error #1
--------
The score is: Tardieu 8, Markovitz 3 (match to 9 points, post-Crawford
play). Markovitz (X) to play 2-1.
24 23 22 21 20 19 18 17 16 15 14 13

Markovitz moved 13/11, 6/5. Gnu BG says 24/23, 13/11 is much better.
# Ply Move Equity

Error #2
--------
The score is: Svobodny 8, Wachtel 1 (match to 9 points, post-Crawford
play). Wachtel (X) doubles to 2.

Svobodny (O) accepts. Gnu BG says this is a very bad take.
Cubeful equities:
1. Double, pass +1.000
2. Double, take +1.329 +0.329
3. No double +0.993 -0.007
Proper cube action: Double, pass.
So, here are my free lessons from an intermediate level player to these
Giants:
1. If your opponent has a free drop available, don't slot. When things
go well and they miss, you don't get most of the value as they simply
drop the cube. And when they hit ... well, naturally you aren't happy
with that either. It just can't work.
2. If you have a free drop available and your opponent starts with a 4-2
and you reply poorly and they generously choose not to play on for the
gammon, be grateful and drop.
There, now they owe me lessons on a part of the game they know better than
me, that is, any other part of the game ...
