Initiatives by local clubs
|
Some of the local backgammon clubs in Denmark have from time to time
brought in an expert or three to give a lecture or series of lectures.
They've been popular with members and with a little publicity attract new
members to the club.
An announcement of a lecture series presented by the Copenhagen Backgammon
Club caught my eye because most of the lecturers aren't world class
experts. They are advanced and intermediate club members who, says club
president Bjørn Kroghsbo, "have throughout an entire season taken lessons,
read up on theory, analyzed and discussed various problems, and have each
chosen a topic that they would like to tell 'us others' about."
The topics are: What's my game plan with 66? What's my game plan at DMP?
When should I leave my anchor? When should I double using the PRAT method?
When should I double in prime vs prime positions? How do I calculate risk
vs. gain? How can I calculate cubeoffs? When should I take or pass a free
drop?
Kudos to KBGK for this initiative. Both "students" and "teachers" will
benefit from participating in these lectures. I imagine most every club
has many players who know something they'd like to share with others.
