Rulings
Scenario One: Alan and Bob look at the drawsheet and sit down to play.
Alan goes to Ed and reports the result, and Ed says "Alan, did you
play Bob? That's not your draw. You were supposed to play Carol, and
Bob plays Diane, and the winners meet."
Suppose Alan and Bob both win against Carol and Diane. Does their
earlier match stand, or do they play again?
Scenario Two: Ed needs new glasses. George is supposed to go into
slot B11 in the consolation, but Ed puts him in B1. Before the error
is discovered, Ed beats Frank, who was in B2.
Does the match have any bearing, now or later? It was Ed, the
tournament director's fault. Does the tournament have any obigation
to Frank and George? How would you rule?

Same answer in both situations. The matches do not count and have to be
replayed if they meet later in the tournament.

I agree with Michael.
In Scenario 1, no, of course Bob and Alan's earlier match doesn't
count; it was not a scheduled tourney match. Further, if it were to
count, Bob would have no incentive to beat Diane in their scheduled
match.
